Mussel roast

Ingredients

Chippi (mussels) – 25 nos
Onion – 2 big
Ginger – 1 medium piece
Garlic – 10 cloves
Curry leaves – 5 sprigs
Tomato- 1
Green chilly – 3 nos
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 3/4 tsp
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Pepper powder – 2 tsp
Garam masala – 1 tsp
Fennel seeds( perum jeerakam) – 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Coconut oil – 4 tsp
Salt as needed
Coriander leaves(chopped) – a hand full

How to prepare

Take a vessel and fill water almost half.

Wash the mussels and transfer into the vessel and allow to boil, till the shells of mussels open. Switch off the flame and allow to cool. Then remove the shells and clean carefully.

In a pan heat coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds and fennel seeds in it. Add finely chopped onion, ginger, garlic paste, green chillies, curry leaves one by one and saute well. Now add finely chopped tomato, when tomato becomes pulpy add red chilly powder, pepper powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and enough salt. Saute and add a little of water to avoid sticking in the pan. Then add mussels, stir well and cook for 15 to 20 minutes. When it’s done garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice/kappapuzhukku.
